Abstract In this study, an optimum beneficiation route was developed for an existing concentrator that processes low-grade chromite deposits. This objective is challenging as the grade of the ore under consideration is approximately 5%, which is the lowest grade processed in Turkey.
Chromite ore, especially metallurgical grade, is pro-duced by selective mining and then the lump ore is used directly in a smelting plant (Deniz, 2019). Gravity meth-ods are the most suitable and inexpensive processes for chromite beneficiation (Özcan, ).
Chromite, however, gives its name to a type of brick made from chromite ore which is usually a mixture of chromite and picro-chromite. Chromite ores are found in many countries—Greece, Turkey, Rhodesia, Cuba—and vary greatly in composition.

Several studies have focused on reduction of chromite losses in the beneficiation plant tailing (Rao et al., 1987, Raghukumar et al., 2009, Tripathy et al., 2011).
